
The Town of Westport will hold a Main Street parade and Jesup Green celebration ceremony on Monday, August 26 at 5 p.m. to celebrate Westport Little League championships has been announced by First Selectman Gordon Joseloff.
The event will honor the boys 12U all stars team, currently competing in the Little League World Series, and the 10-11 Little League girls all stars softball team. The 12U team won the state and New England regional championships while the softball team won the state title.
The parade will begin on Main Street at Avery Place, then head south on Main Street, cross Post Road East, and end at Jesup Green where a ceremony will he held on the temporary stage of the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts. It will be held rain or shine.
"This will be a wonderful way to celebrate the achievements of these young athletes and demonstrate our support for them and for those who helped them bring home championships to Westport," Joseloff said. "We are so proud of them. Each and every Westporter is bursting with pride."
"No matter how they do in the remaining games, these youngsters are our super heroes, and we look forward to honoring them on Monday along with the softball team," Joseloff said.
He said Westport Little League President Carl McNair informed the Little Leaguers in Williamsport of the town's plans, and they were excited and looking forward to the Monday event.
In addition to team members, the ceremony will honor 12U manager Tim Rogers, Coaches Tom Whelan and Brett Reiner, and the 10-11 girls manager Mark McWhirter, and Coaches Lou Alfero and Andre Klein.
Westport Little League will play Chula Vista, CA tomorrow, August 24, at 3:30 p.m. for the US Championship. The game will be televised on ABC. The final is Sunday, August 25, at 3 p.m.
