Mayor Moccia to Co-Host Zeus Swim Team Fundraiser, Oct. 23

Norwalk, CT –  Norwalk’s top ranked Zeus swim team invites the public to participate in an aquatic-themed fundraiser, “Make A Splash for Norwalk”, on Wednesday October 23 from 6:30-9 p.m. at Norwalk City Hall. The adult-only event, co-hosted by Mayor Moccia, will feature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live music, and duck races, and is designed to raise funds both for team activities and improvements to the team’s home pool at Norwalk High School .

“I am honored to host “Make a Splash for Norwalk ,” said Norwalk Mayor Richard Moccia. “This event highlights the wonderful achievements not only of the Zeus swim team, but of all activities for children that involve commitment, discipline and parental involvement. This is more than good fun it is the training of our City’s next generation of leaders.”

The Zeus swim team has been a jewel in Norwalk ’s crown for more than 60 years.  Founded by International Swimming Hall of Fame Grande Dame, Betty Philcox, the team is consistently positioned among the top-rated teams in Connecticut and is consistently ranked in the top 10 swim teams in Connecticut .  The Zeus team attracts competitive swimmers from towns throughout Fairfield County and consists of 111 members ranging in age from five years through high school seniors.

"I'm thrilled to see so many young children come through the Parks and Recreation Learn-To-Swim program, and whether they go on to become recreational swimmers or members of a competitive swim team, like the Zeus Swim Team, they have acquired a valuable life skill.  Swimming can make such a huge difference in a child's life" explained Pam Rayla Aquatics Director for the City and Norwalk High School girls swim team coach.

Proceeds from the event will be used for swimmer scholarships, equipment and to make essential improvements to the pool at Norwalk High School where the team holds daily practices and hosts county-wide swim meets.  Additionally, the pool is a vital community resource – it is utilized by Norwalk Recreation and Parks Department for children’s swim lessons and by the Norwalk High School boys and girls swim teams.

Tickets for the event are $35.00 each and can be obtained by contacting www.zeusswimteam.org  (to purchase tickets online) or by contacting Lori Colleran at lacolleran30@gmail.com
