I watch a lot of TV. Maybe more shows than I'd like to admit but I like the chase, the search for a great series. Up to this point in life I am and will always be partial to "All in the Family," "The Cosby Show," "Fresh Prince," "Seinfeld," "Fraiser," "The Sopranos," "Deadwood," and now "Breaking Bad." It is a long list and all those shows have since ended. Of course I have more though, I just tend to wait for them to officially wrap-up so I can make a judgment call.
However...Every once in a while good shows come along that are in serious danger of losing me as a viewer. I said "good" because I liked them in the beginning, I liked them a lot, and that like bordered on love. This fall, a few shows I once loved are just starting to jump the shark.
You want the list? You got it.
"How I Met Your Mother"
This once funny, "Friends" rip off still has its sweetness but the inside jokes are played out and it stopped being even remotely jokey a few seasons ago. This season the Robin-Barney wedding fiasco is taking forever and yes, I know it plays into how Ted meets the girl of his dreams, but do us a favor and meet this chick already. Thankfully, and finally, this is the final season.
"Revolution"
The PG version: "What the hell happened from season one to season two?!"
Trust me, I can't even tell you what I said on Twitter about what is going on with "Revolution."
Season one was easily one of the best new shows on NBC in forever with lots of the credit going to J.J. Abrams and Jon Favreau but didn't you all like it better when you knew what the heck was going on? It seems like a lot happened between Rachel flipping the power back on to the start of the second season. I know we'll get answers since the show is told through some flashbacks but I still can't pick out this season's real objective. Also, the stuff with Aaron and the fireflies is weird and it seriously better pay off big time.
"True Blood"
OK, it's technically not a fall show but this is the perfect example of a show that rocked at the beginning but the past two seasons have been awful with storylines no one cares about and way too many characters to keep track of. They announced that next season will be its last. Thank. You. I've had enough of all the vampires, werewolves, shifters, mediums, witch doctors, and fairies this show has to offer.
"Modern Family"
Go ahead, hate me, but I really only have one major issue. Just wait for it.
The writing is still great, the acting and characters still bring it every week, the jokes are smart funny, they just are not "LOL" funny aside from anything Phil related. Tight suit, come on, you know you cracked up.
This comedy isn't going anywhere, I just wanted to complain.
"Homeland"
Season one was as great as a TV series can get. Claire Danes and Damian Lewis are fantastic actors. The issue? Season two was way too much like every episode of "24." And "Homeland" should not go that route. It is a smart show with great leads that deliver. I am thrilled to see "Homeland" go back to its roots and showcase the actors and writing and not play out like an action movie. Season three is off to a good start and I just know great things are coming real soon.
