Dmitri Wright Book Signing and Opening Reception at Silvermine School of Art

Join us for a book signing and exhibition opening on Thursday, June 18, from 6-8pm to celebrate the publication of My Dancing Brush: Insights & Reflections on How To Be an Impressionist. Author and Silvermine faculty member Dmitri Wright will have an exhibition of his artwork from the book as well as new works. There will be a short presentation of his philosophies and methods and what he calls “the seven principles of the intuitive way.” A portion of the proceeds of the sale of the book will go towards the Silvermine School of Art Scholarship Fund.

Wright’s artistic lineage stems from the American Impressionists. His mentors have been Samuel Brecher, who studied under Charles W. Hawthorne (a student of William Merritt Chase) and Donald Brown. He was a Max Beckman International Scholar at the Brooklyn Museum Art School. At the Cooper Union, he studied under Wolf Kahn and Will Barnet.

In addition to his teaching at Silvermine, Wright is the Master Artist/Instructor for the Weir Farm National Historic Site, the National Park dedicated to American Impressionism. He is also the first artist-in-residence at the Greenwich Historic Society, a birthplace of American Impressionism. Wright’s work is housed in many museums and corporate collections. He lives in Greenwich, Connecticut, where he also maintains a studio.

Wright’s method, in his own words, is “lyrical, poetic, and realistic where all contact is direct and unrepeatable.” Impressionism, he has written, is “the bridge between classical and modern art, it is the mortar that holds those worlds, it is the transitional place from which students can explore the various schools.”

Come meet this engaging artist and expert teacher on June 18th.
