Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Izzi B's Allergen-Free Bakery

Three questions with Pam Nicholas, owner of Izzi B's.

Why did you start your business?

My daughter Izzi was diagnosed with an egg allergy as a baby and I wanted to create a cupcake she could enjoy on her first birthday. The research I did made me realize how many people have food allergies and just plain care about what they eat - my mission, everyone deserves a treat!

Best selling product/service?

We are known for our cupcakes but I've developed so many new products like donuts and baguettes that people love too.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We use local farmer's markets (including Westport Farmer's Market) for some of our produce. We also use Doc's Maple Syrup. We distribute locally to independent retailers such as Palmer's, Village Market, Caraluzzi's, the Pantry and other larger retailers in the area such as Whole Foods Market.

Izzi B's Allergen-Free Bakery is located at 22 Knight Street in Norwalk. Visit them Nitoni Provisions.
