Why Small Businesses Matter in Norwalk: Precious Oysters

Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Precious Oysters!
Four questions with Rachel Precious, founder of Precious Oysters (Raw Bar Catering).
Why did you start your business?
I'm passionate about ocean conservation and sustainable seafood. With years of shellfish farming experience under my belt, combined with my background as an event planner, I began catering raw bars for private events as a way to showcase our amazing local Connecticut seafood while educating people about the shellfishing industry and the importance of protecting our marine environments.
What is your best-selling product/service?
Wedding receptions are my most popular event, but I also cater to many small, in-home dinner parties, boat charters, beer festivals, and everything in between!
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
I source my shellfish directly from many farms in Connecticut and New England and also work with farms and wholesalers across CT!
Have you reimagined your small business?
Yes - all the time! If you're not moving forward, you're moving backward. I'm constantly thinking of new ways that I can incorporate raw bars into local events and venues. I have some plans in the works for expansion, and am excited to share them with the community once things are ready to be unveiled!
