Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut (GWNC) today announced it has distributed 2,000 backpacks, with 30-piece school supply kits, to organizations working with children throughout Fairfield and Hartford Counties.
Benefactors of the nonprofit’s 2023 ‘Backpack Giveback’ include: Boys and Girls Clubs of Hartford, The Village, Wakeman Boys & Girls Club and YWCA Hartford Region. Additionally, backpacks were distributed to children of the nonprofit’s own Team Members and a limited number of free backpacks are available, on a first come first served basis, at Goodwill Career Centers in Bridgeport, Enfield, Hartford, Norwalk, Shelton, and Waterbury.
“A core focus of Goodwill’s work is creating pathways to employment,” Rocco Tricarico, President & CEO, Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut, said. “By helping to set students up for success in the classroom, we aim to encourage a cycle of lifelong learning that will benefit them during their schooling and beyond. This is an extension of the work that we do to help set adults up to be successful in the workforce, and we are proud to expand our efforts to serve some of the youngest members of our communities.”
