A Metal Flower Grows in Georgetown

A striking metal flower has popped up in front of The Wire Mill Saloon and BBQ in Georgetown to celebrate the successful opening of Robin & Gino Masrsili's new restaurant as well as the overall revival of the downtown Georgetown area. This one-of-a-kind piece is entitled "Lover," and it will be on display for the duration of the summer. It is certain to be a colorful addition to the Georgetown Day festivities on June 8th!

The Artist, Loren Costantini, has had his flower sculptures on exhibit in the Chelsea Art District in NY, and his works have been commissioned by private collectors from as far away as Norway. He currently has an additional large Yellow flower on exhibit at a Childrens Museum in Aurora, Colorado.

Georgetown area resident Patrick Pitre, who represents the artist, shared, "The most interesting thing happened when we looked at possibilities for this installation, as the Artist and Owner together identified a large, bare wooden wire-spool that Mr. and Mrs. Marsili had already acquired. Once the delivery method for the product that was long manufactured in the old Mill across Rt 107 (after which the restaurant was named), the spool made for a perfect pedestal for a sculpture of this size and scale, so Loren bolted it down. That a flower - so symbolic of all things natural, beautiful and full of new life - can be constructed from metal, and installed as if "stemming" from an authentic industrial material that conjures imagery of a Georgetown era fondly recalled by so many...is more than symbiotic. Collaboration with the people and the physical geography of a space is something that excites us. It was a perfect install."
