A stargazing event will be held at the Ridgefield Star Park (Onalfo Field), Saturday, April 28th, starting at 8:00 P.M. Attendees will be led by amateur astronomers and participate in the worldwide Astronomy Day. There will be wonderful views of the first-quarter moon, the early spring constellations, and some “deep space” objects with our astronomical telescopes. What phase will the magnificent Venus display in the western sky? Reddish-appearing Mars will be high on the southern sky, and is as close as it will be to Earth for the next two years or so. One telescope will be trained on Saturn (now in the constellation Virgo) so that participants can see the spectacular rings and numerous moons of this beautiful planet.
Participants may want to bring a sweater, binoculars, and a lawn chair. Park in the Bark Park (Dog Park) lot, which is at the corner of Prospect Ridge and Governor Street, and walk up the hill at the far end (south). For directions, visit http://www.starpark.org/park/map.html.
