Concert by Musicians of Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra at Keeler Tavern Museum


Musicians from the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra will perform at the Keeler Tavern Museum, 132 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT on Sunday, May 20 at 3::00 PM. This is the final concert in the 2011-2012 season of the popular Louise McKeon Chamber Music Series which has been held in the Museum’s Garden House for 21 years.

The Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra (WCYO), is a not-for-profit organization providing young musicians in the Fairfield County and upper Westchester County areas with classical symphonic experience. The organization comprises three ensembles led by Petko Dimitrov (Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra), Suzanne Corey-Sahlin (Western Connecticut Youth String Orchestra), and Albert Montecalvo (Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra Wind Ensemble). The WCYO mission is to provide an opportunity for young musicians to develop their musical talents through education and performance, and to provide cultural enrichment to the surrounding communities. Based in Ridgefield, Connecticut, the WCYO orchestras have toured in Sweden, Austria, and Paris, and have performed at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. Auditions are required for selection into the orchestras.

During the concert members of the Youth Orchestra will perform selections from compositions by Johannes Brahms, W. A. Mozart , Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Malcolm Arnold, Anton Dvorak, Richard Rodgers, J .S. Bach, Joseph Haydn and others during this special appearance at the Keeler Tavern Museum Following the concert all visitors are invited to meet with the musicians while enjoying light refreshments.
