The Ridgefield Playhouse Summer Fundraising Gala Features Michael McDonald

His voice was the signature sound of The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan. Singer-songwriter Michael McDonald will headline at The Ridgefield Playhouse Gala Fundraiser on Wednesday, June 22, in a festive evening of food, fun and entertainment. Michael McDonald’s hits include “What a Fool Believes”, “Minute by Minute”, “I Keep Forgettin’”, “You Belong To Me”, “Takin’ it To The Streets”, “Living for the City”, and many more. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. for VIP Meet & Greet ticket holders, which includes food from Ancona’s Market, Bissell House, Southwest Café and Terra Sole Ristorante in the lobby. For all ticket holders, the evening starts at 7:30 p.m. with an open bar. A live auction will take place from the stage at 8:30 p.m., which will include a coveted item signed by Michael McDonald, followed by his performance at 9:00 p.m. This event is sponsored by Ancona’s Market, Bissell House, Southwest Café and Terra Sole Ristorante, all of Ridgefield. Five-time Grammy® Award winner and pop icon Michael McDonald is known for his mesmerizing voice. His sound is a blend of Memphis-style soul, rhythm and blues, and his soulful way with ballads. As a solo artist since the ‘80s, McDonald continues to earn awards including a #1 chart-topper for “On My Own” which he recorded with Patti Labelle. When Michael McDonald gives a concert, audiences end up dancing in the aisles to their familiar favorites from the world of pop, soul, rhythm & blues and Motown.

An accomplished musician and entertainer, McDonald played keyboards and piano and sang backup for Steely Dan, where he first cut his chops. With the Doobie Brothers, he recorded some of his signature songs including “Takin’ It to the Streets”, “Little Darling”, “It Keeps You Runnin’”, “Minute by Minute” and “What a Fool Believes” which became the #1 single in the U.S. and earned a 1980 Grammy® Award for Song of the Year. A feather in his cap was co-writing “You Belong to Me” which became a hit for Carly Simon.
