No Amusement In Canceling the Carnival

We stopped by East Ridge Middle School just after 5:00 pm this afternoon and the scene was grim. Employees of Tufano Amusements, the family owned and operated traveling amusement company based in Cheshire Ct, were breaking down the many rides, game trailers and food stands. There were tears from disappointed kids and yes, frustrated parents. Why was it canceled? The sky had finally cleared and the forecast, for the next few hours anyway, was encouraging.

The ERMS field was indeed wet. After only a few minutes, my flip flops were soaked and covered in mud. So, not only would this cause unsafe conditions for carnival attendees due to slipping and sliding while getting on and off rides, but it would do a number on the field. Can't Tufano Amusements hang around for one more day and put a smile back on the faces of the kids? No. But if you're up for a road trip, they'll be setting up shop (or amusements) in West Haven tomorrow.

We sat down with Ed Gabbianelli, Chairman of Ridgefield's Volunteer Fire Department, and Tony Tufano, owner of Tufano Amusements to chat with them about their decision to cancel this very popular annual event. The video clip is on the front page of HamletHub or you can click here to watch it.
