Ridgefield Moms & Daughters Help Cancer Survivors, One Bag at a Time
On June 17th, mothers and daughters from the National Charity League, Nutmeg Chapter, Class of 2017, came together to help Necessities, a local Ridgefield non-profit organization that provides bags for women undergoing mastectomy surgery. With breast cancer being the most common cancer among women in the US, these bags filled with ‘necessities’ proved to be essential for post-mastectomy patients. Each bag is stuffed with more than a dozen items to help women cope before and after surgery in and comfort patients with wound care, hygiene and personal care. Cancer patients receive the bag through their oncology office to help them with practical guidance and a resource for questions. It also has information for caregivers and loved ones to help address the pre-surgical concerns and the challenges of recovery at home. NCL provides volunteers year round to assemble these bags and sew pillows using colorful fabrics.
