As of today, June 26, Sue and Jim Johnstone are no longer the owners of Ridgefield Fitness Club (RFC). The dedicated couple who worked tirelessly to create and brand a state of the art fitness facility in the center of town, have sold RFC to The Gym. With a sister location in Southbury, The Gym, owned by Seth Hirschel, calls themselves a luxury and boutique brand, providing an experience that promotes wellness, healthy living and sustainability. Hirschel is also the owner of New Milford Sports Club and CLAY in New York City.
We were told that not much will change, at least initially. The classes and staff will remain the same, the rates will not change. "Slowly, they will be re-branding as The Gym," said an employee, who also reassured us that we will see the familiar faces of Sue and Jim Johnstone. "They will be members," she told us.
"We're the proud new owners and we're excited to be reinvesting in this club," said Hirschel. "I'm here helping with the transition, but next week, our general manager, Ann Glaser will be here," added Hirschel. Passersby will notice a new sign by week's end, and members will see some fresh paint on the interior of the club next week.
Almost 14 years ago we opened our doors with a mission to create a great fitness club. It has been a wonderful experience for us! Along this journey, we have been blessed in working with a dedicated staff with the passion for fitness, educating, motivating and helping members reach their goals.
We are incredibly grateful to have had your loyal support all these years. It is you that makes RFC a great place to work out with a real feeling of family and community. As we now move into a different direction, we are leaving you in the hands of a well respected brand in our industry, the gym. We know there is an exciting and new future for RFC under their direction.
