Peter A. Ohring

Peter A. Ohring, 55, of New Fairfield, husband of Mary (Shostak) Ohring died on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Danbury Hospital after being stricken ill at home.

Peter was born in Boston, MA, April 13, 1958, a son of George and Jean (Oxman) Ohring of College Park, MD. He attended Boston schools, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel where he received his degrees in mathematics and physics. He received his doctorate degree from the University of Colorado and his post doctorate degrees and fellowships from Louisiana State University, Bowdoin College and SUNY-Albany.

At the time of his death, Peter was a Professor of Mathematics, Computer Science and New Media at SUNY-Purchase.

A resident of New Fairfield for the past 19 years coming from Greenwich, CT, Peter was a member of the New Fairfield Board of Education and a member and co-vice president of Congregation B'Nai Israel of Danbury.

He enjoyed playing the violin, bicycling, hiking and playing tennis. Most of all, he enjoyed the time spent with his family.

In addition to his wife and parents, Peter is survived by a son, Isaac Ohring and a daughter, Rachel Ohring both of New Fairfield; two brothers, Marshall Ohring and his wife, Eva of Hollywood, FL and Richard Ohring of Tel Aviv, Israel and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 11:30 A.M. in Congregation B'Nai Israel, 193 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury with Rabbi Nelly Altenburger officiating.

Burial will follow in Children of Israel Cemetery, Miry Brook Rd., Danbury.

The family will observe Shiva on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4P.M. to 8 P.M. at 16 Mac Bean Drive, New Fairfield with Minyan at 7 P.M., Saturday from 5:30 P.M. to 8P.M. and Sunday from 4P.M. to 8P.M.

Ruby Coppola

Ruby (Crisci) Coppola, 108, of Brookfield, formerly of Staten Island, NY, wife of the late Vincent "Jimmy" Coppola, died at her residence on Saturday, November 9, 2013. Mrs. Coppola was born in Pittsburgh on August 23, 1905, daughter of John and Giovanna (nee Macorlana) Crisci. Mrs. Coppola was associated with her late husband in the operation of two restaurants, the first being in upper Manhattan and the second on Staten Island.

A resident of Brookfield for the last three years, coming from Staten Island, NY where she formerly resided on Colony Avenue. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Parish of Staten Island and most recently St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish of Brookfield.

Mrs. Coppola is survived by two daughters, Ann M. Cerone of Brookfield and Mary Ignazzi of Flanders, NJ; a son, Vincent Coppola of Las Vegas, NV; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and four great great-children; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two daughters, Jennie Bruno and Concetta Whiteaker and by an infant son, Vincent.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Church, Staten Island, NY. Entombment will take place in the Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury, CT. on Wednesday, November 13, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Robert (Bob) Charles Thies

Robert (Bob) Charles Thies, 84 of Middlebury, Connecticut passed away at his home on Sunday morning after a battle with cancer. He was born on November 25, 1928 in Queens, New York to Henry and Ellie (Lange) Thies. Henry worked as a bookkeeper and Ellie was a homemaker.

Bob graduated from The City College of New York with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Shortly after college, Bob met and married Joy Hart of New York. Joy was an artist and fashion model. He then served in the Navy during the Korean War as an electronics specialist.

After the Navy, Bob took additional classes in chemistry at NYU, before beginning his career as a chemist at GAF. Soon after Bob realized that he preferred the business side of GAF and became a salesman in the St. Louis office. From there he moved to the San Francisco, Chicago and New York offices before he left to join Union Carbide Corporation in 1963. At Union Carbide, Bob worked in sales and marketing at the firm's headquarters in New York City and then subsequently Danbury. He was the Marketing Manager of the Hydrocarbons Group until his retirement in 1986. Bob resided in Ridgefield from 1978 to 2007.

Bob's interests included electronics and computers, sailing and reading. He was a devoted husband and father and loved to spend weekends with his family.

Bob is survived by his two sons and their spouses, Scott and Sharon Thies of Seattle, Washington and Mark and Kathy Thies of North Salem, New York, as well as three grandchildren, Paul, Jack and Caroline Thies.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy, and his brother Henry ("Hank") Thies of Smithtown, New York.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 12 noon in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 351 Main St., Ridgefield with Rev. Whitney Altopp, officiating.

The Family will receive friends at the Kane Funeral Home 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield , on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

William W. Melnick

William W. Melnick, 83, of Ridgefield, husband of Ann (Gueci) Melnick; father of Michael, Stephen and John and brother of the late George and late Catherine died on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013 at Laurel Ridge, Ridgefield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 10:15 am in St. Mary Church, Ridgefield. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Saturday and Sunday at times to be announced. Contributions in Mr. Melnick's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association.
