Wolf Tails for Kids - Mythology of a Predator

DESCRIPTION: Join the Wolf Conservation Center for a mythology program
discussing the relationship between the wolves and humans of the past.
Guests will be introduced to various wolf mythologies and then have a chance
to create their own and share if desired. Then, guests will visit Ambassador
wolves Atka, Alawa and Zephyr as well as the WCC's critically endangered red
wolves and Mexican gray wolves. Don't forget a camera! Pre-registration is

Arctic Fest: Wings and Wolves

Date: March 2, 2014

Fee: $20 per person

Winter offers families a unique opportunity to visit the wolves during their
favorite time of year. The animals of the arctic are not strangers to cold
winters. Living in continual darkness and temperatures hovering between -20
or -30 degrees Fahrenheit, arctic animals must develop special adaptations
to stay warm, conserve energy, and find food in a barren, frozen world.
Arctic Fest: Wings and Wolves will allow guests to learn about the harsh
habitat that some very special animals call home. Master falconer, Brian
Bradley of Skyhunters in Flight, will present his beautiful feathered
ambassadors that call the high arctic home and will do a flight
demonstration too! Guests will also visit resident arctic gray wolf Atka
and of course the WCC's other ambassador wolves-Zephyr and Alawa as well as
the WCC's critically endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves. Guests
will enjoy hot beverages in our woodstove-heated classroom. Space is
limited. Please dress for COLD weather.

Enjoy visiting the wolves during their favorite hour - dusk. Learn about the
mythology, biology and ecology of wolf families and discover why spring is a
magical time for packs in North America. This time of year, wolves are out
searching for prey as they prepare for the birth of this year's pups!
Guests will take a short sunset hike to howl with Ambassador wolves Atka,
Alawa and Zephyr and behold the WCC's critically endangered red wolves and
Mexican wolves. All guests will be served weather appropriate treats.

Natures Course: Wolves and Moose of Isle Royale

For decades a wolf and moose study has been conducted on Isle Royale to
better observe how predator/prey dynamics work, however, this study may soon
come to an end. Join the Wolf Conservation Center in a discussion of
current issues for the wolf populations both on Isle Royale and the
elsewhere in the United States. Then, guests will visit Ambassador wolves
Atka, Alawa and Zephyr as well as the WCC's critically endangered red wolves

Sunset Photo Session

Join us for this special opportunity to photograph the WCC's Ambassador
wolves: Atka ,Alawa, and Zephyr, in the warm glow of the sunset! It's the
perfect time of year to capture the beauty of the wolves with their
beautiful winter coats! Guests will also be given access to photograph the
WCC critically endangered Mexican wolves and red wolves too from vantage
points not generally available during regular visits. Pre-registration is

Saving a Species - An Inside Look at the WCC's Endangered Species Program

DESCRIPTION: The Wolf Conservation Center participates in the Species
Survival Plan (SSP) and Recovery Plan for two different kinds of wolves,
both critically endangered: the Mexican gray wolf and the red wolf. But
what does this really mean? Join us to learn what it takes to help save a
species from the brink of extinction. Guests will get an inside look at the
process of matching potential breeders, what criteria must be met to
recommend wolves for release into the wild, the husbandry challenge of
caring for animals that we rarely see and how it feels to help Mexican gray
wolves and red wolves resume their rightful place in the wild. Guests will
visit the WCC's Ambassador wolves as well as the WCC's critically endangered
red wolves and Mexican gray wolves. All guests will be served weather

Full Moon Wolf Walk

Celebrate the March full moon, "the Worm Moon," with the Wolf Conservation
Center's moon-loving wolves! As the snow begins to melt and the ground
softens, earthworms emerge as the new season begins. While keeping cozy by
the WCC's outdoor fire pit, guests will enjoy warm drinks, sugary treats and
likely the symphony of howls from the 21 wolves that call the WCC home.
Guests will learn about the history of wolves in the United States, the
importance of wolves in a healthy ecosystem and the efforts to save these
magnificent creatures for future generations. Spring is not all about worms,
it's an exciting time for wolves too. Whether living on the Arctic tundra
or the high desert of the southwest, wolf families are out searching for
prey as they prepare for the birth of this year's pups! Guests then take
will take a short moonlit walk to visit Ambassador wolves Atka, Alawa and

Saving a Species - Spotlight on Mexican Gray Wolf Recovery

DESCRIPTION: On March 29, 1998, 11 captive-reared Mexican gray wolves were
released to the wild for the first time in the Blue Range Recovery Area of
Arizona and New Mexico. Missing from the landscape for more than 30 years,
the howl of the rarest and most unique subspecies of gray wolf, was once
again greeted by the mountains of the southwest. In recognition of this
historic event, a significant milestone for the lobo and wildlife
conservation, the Wolf Conservation Center will discuss what it takes to
help save this species from the brink of extinction. Guests will get an
inside look at the process of matching potential breeders, what criteria
