Next week, while Ridgefield Public Schools are on spring break and half the town's residents are basking in the sun somewhere south of Connecticut, the temporary Ridgefield Library will close its doors at 21 Governor Street on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m.
To help us understand what this means for residents (changes, locations, dates, etc), the Ridgefield Library has published a handy guide, "The Ridgefield Library on the Move: What Does It Mean for You?" Here it is:
The Ridgefield Library on the Move: What Does It Mean for You?
• The Ridgefield Library will be closing the doors on its temporary facility at 21 Governor Street at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 17. Opening Weekend at its expanded and renovated building at 472 Main Street will begin on May 9, with full library service resuming on Saturday, May 10.
• No items borrowed will be due during this time period, so come in before the 17th and stock up on reading material and other items to tide you over until May 12, the first "due date" in the new Library.
• No new fines will accrue during the days we are closed, but existing late fees will will remain payable on your account.
• The outside book return at Governor Street will be closed as of Monday, April 21; please hold on to any library materials until after re-opening.
• The Library will not be able to process new hold requests, inter-library loans or book club orders until after the move is complete. If you receive notification now that something is waiting for you, please pick it up before the 17th.
• The last day for donation of used books for the Friends of the Library spring book sale will be April 17 at Governor Street; acceptance will resume at 472 Main Street on May 12.
• Ridgefield Library cardholders are welcome to borrow items from all other public libraries in the state, thanks to the ConnectiCard resource sharing system; you must present your unexpired full- sized Ridgefield Library card to take advantage of this service. Check at the Circulation Desk before April 17 to make sure you are properly equipped.
• Access to the many valuable resources found on the Library's website will be uninterrupted. Library staff urge everyone to take advantage of the databases, downloadable e-books and audiobooks and other content available for free with your Library card for log-in.
• A few previously planned adult and children's programs will take place as scheduled during this time, at alternative locations. Check ridgefieldlibrary.org for details.
• The Library's website will remain in operation throughout, and staff will remain reachable by email.
• Frequent updates will be made via Facebook and Twitter.
• Phone contact will be interrupted on April 23 and 24 when our phone system is moved.
The Ridgefield Library will be reopening with full service at 472 Main Street is Saturday, May 10, at 9 a.m. However, opening weekend festivities begin Friday, May 9, at 5 p.m. with the Book Brigade and will continue on Saturday and Sunday.
