Bark Park to Move & Improve

If you have been to Bark Park lately (you know, Ridgefield's park for our four-legged friends) you will notice that the "big dog" section of the park is now closed.

From now until mid-July, dogs will only have access to the "small dog" area of the park. "The small dogs will have to deal with it," chuckles Ridgefield Parks & Rec Director, Paul Roche.

But, it is a small sacrifice for a tail-wagging reward. Bark Park, which will be moved to a different location on the same property (Prospect Ridge), will be enhanced. Robert (Bob) Schneider, Assistant Director - Ridgefield Parks and Rec, explains that the move to the flat, grassy area closer to the road, "will allow for an increase in size and the removal of the dreaded, grass-less hill."

According to Roche, if all goes well with the weather (think: no rain) excavations will begin tomorrow. "It will take about 2 months to complete the job - so we're looking at July 15."

Dogs and owners can expect some major improvements to this new doggie fun park. "This is a big project," says Roche. "There will be a pavilion and some very interesting features," he adds.

The landscaping work will be completed by Bruzzi Lawn & Landscaping of New Milford and The Barnyard Store of Bethel will complete the pavilion.

The enhancements will be funded through private donations.
