Members of The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum will gather to toast the memory and achievements of founder Larry Aldrich on the occasion of his birthday.
On Friday, June 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., glasses will be raised in honor of his groundbreaking vision of providing unmatched access to the art and artists of the day. The legacy of Mr. Aldrich, who passed away in 2001 at the age of ninety-five, is being especially celebrated in this, the Museum's fiftieth anniversary year.
Mr. Aldrich designed his own fashion line and marketed his first dress collection in 1927. He went on to enjoy forty years of prominence and success in the fashion industry before retiring to focus on the Museum's growth. This year, The Aldrich's exhibitions are examining the relationship between the era in which it was founded and our current social, political, and cultural landscape.
Aldrich members, artists, and friends will enjoy a festive evening of sixties cocktails, locally-sourced hors d'oeuvres. Special guests—including fashion designer Alexander Julian, art collectors Warren Rubin and Bernice Wollman, and exhibitions director Richard Klein— will honor Mr. Aldrich and speak about fashion, contemporary art, toasting his enduring accomplishment and the future of the Museum.
