For the past 55 years, the Ridgefield Rotary has been recognizing local citizens for their outstanding leadership and commitment to the community's civic and charitable organizations. This Wednesday, June 18, the Rotary will honor Marcie and Peter Coffin as the 2014 Citizens of the Year.
"Marcie and Peter embody all that we admire in the leaders, philanthropists and citizens of our community," said Ridgefield Rotary Vice President Rich Vazzana. "They truly embody the Rotary's motto of 'Service Above Self.'"
The award will be presented at a dinner and celebration at the Silver Spring Country Club on June 18 at 6 pm. Tickets ($75) for the event, which is being sponsored by Danbury Audi, are still available through the Rotary Club.
The Citizen of the Year award presentation is the culmination of the Rotary's extensive nomination and voting process. Criteria include exemplary volunteer efforts demonstrating leadership and citizenship by providing service to programs and activities that positively impact the welfare of Ridgefield.
"It is truly an honor for Marcie and I to receive this award," said Peter Coffin. "We love Ridgefield and love the opportunity to be able to give back in some small way."
The Coffins have lived in town for over 20 years and have two children, Will and Charlie. Marcie is a graduate of Babson College and is the Senior Vice President in charge of risk management at Fairfield County Bank. She has been an officer and served on several boards in town, including the Ridgefield Sunrise Cottage, Ridgefield Community Center, Ridgefield VNA, and SCOR. She is currently on the Ridgefield Police Commission and the Lions Heart Service Organization.
In 2010, the Ridgefield Library awarded Peter the Paccadolmi Award for Leadership and in 2013 the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association honored him with their Gifts of Time and Expertise award.
The Coffins will arrive at Silver Spring that evening in a chauffeured vehicle, courtesy of Danbury Audi. Several dignitaries and surprise guests will attend the event and speak in honor of the Coffins. Many previous recipients will also be in attendance. The award will be presented by Ridgefield Rotary President Joe Kreitz and last year's Citizen of the Year winner Sarah Boisseau. The Ridgefield Rotary invites the community to purchase tickets ($75) through the Ridgefield Rotary website, or email Theresa Santoro at tsantoro@ridgefieldvna.org.
