On 06/26/2014 the Ridgefield Police Department received a complaint from an employee of a Danbury Road business of a possible fraud. The complainant advised Officers that she had received a phone call from an individual claiming to be a representative of Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P). The caller advised the employee that the business owed CL&P approximately $700.00 and that if they did not immediately receive payment, power to the business would be cut off. The caller advised the employee that they would only accept payment via Green-Dot MoneyPak cards and instructed the employee to call a different phone number after the cards were purchased. The employee purchased the cards and called the phone number she was instructed to call giving information on the MoneyPak card to the scammer. By giving the information on the card, this allowed the scammer to access the money on the card.

The Ridgefield Police Department would like to remind residents and businesses to contact Police Headquarters (203-438-6531) if they feel they have been or about to be victim to a scam.
