Join an engaging dialogue between two artists who are currently presenting their work at the Museum. Hutchins and Davis, who live on opposite coasts, first met at The Aldrich in April for the opening of their exhibitions and the launch of the Museum's 50th Anniversary. Although they approach art making in very different ways, they share common interests and inspirations, and through this gallery conversation visitors will gain insights into the complexities and revelations of the artists' creative process.
Taken from a short story by author William Gass, the title of Taylor Davis’s exhibition, If you steal a horse, and let him go, he'll take you to the barn you stole him from, points to the circular sense of movement that is inherent in both the conceptual and physical aspects of her work. Davis’s deep interest in sculpture is based in the way that a viewer’s orientation can be influenced by the perception of both form and language in space, and how this experience is an analogy to the ongoing need to constantly orient ourselves in relationship to the world.
