See Helen Mirren’s portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in National Theatre of London’s The Audience on the big screen at The Ridgefield Playhouse on August 14

Helen Mirren has played the Queen of England several times, including in “The Queen” movie and a TV mini series called “Elizabeth I.” She won an Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in "The Queen" in 2006 and this year won a Tony Award for her Broadway role in “The Audience.”

Returning to the big screen at The Ridgefield Playhouse as part of the HD Series on Friday, August 14 at 6:30 p.m.  Theater fans will see the critically acclaimed production from London’s Gielgud Theatre as it was originally captured in 2013.  The Audience imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the Downing Street incumbents and their Queen.  From Churchill to Cameron, each Prime Minister uses these private conversations as a sounding board and a confessional –sometimes intimate, sometimes explosive.  In turn, the Queen can’t help but reveal her own self as she advises, consoles and on occasion, teases.  These private audiences chart the arc of the second Elizabethan Age, from the beginning of Elizabeth II’s reign to today.

Politicians come and go through the revolving door of electoral politics, while she remains constant, waiting to welcome her next Prime Minister.  The Audience features the critically acclaimed production from London’s Gielgud Theatre as it was originally captured in 2013.  In addition to the play, audiences will be treated to an exclusive Q&A with Mirren and director Stephen Daldry.  In Broadway fashion, enjoy dinner before the show at Bernard’s (20 West Lane, Ridgefield) and enjoy a Prix Fixe menu and be out in time to see the show.
