A little more than a month ago, Mrs. Dunn’s 5th and 7th graders at Ridgefield Academy were introduced to the World Education Games. These games are put on by 3P Learning and a partnership with UNICEF [United Nations Children’s Fund (formerly United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund)]. The World Education Games consist of Math, Literacy, and Science competitions.
Students began their online math practice competing against other students their age on October 2, getting ready for the World Math Competition, which took place approximately 2 weeks later.
On October 13, they then began the Math competition in class.
The students had until October 15 to compete in 20 online math games at varying levels against other students from around the world.
Over 6 million students from over 20,000 schools were registered to participate in the games. Each time a student answered questions correctly, that student earned UNICEF points that 3P Learning has pledged to turn into cash for UNICEF. The World Education Games generated a total of 169,474,201 UNICEF points, which amounted to a contribution of over $100,000. This money will be used to purchase over 130 School In A Box kits, as well as other ongoing educational projects.
Most of Mrs. Dunn’s 52 students completed all 20 Math games, and some also participated in the Literacy and Science games.
The following three students placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at Ridgefield Academy in the Math Games.
• Meredith J. finished in 3rd place in the World Maths Day Competition at RA earning 521 points.
• Tommy H. finished in 2nd place in the World Maths Day Competition at RA earning 534 points.
• John C. finished in 1st place in the World Maths Day Competition at RA earning 633 points.
Luisa S. also participated in the World Literacy Day as well as the World Maths Day Competition and finished in 1st place in all the World Education Games at RA earning 2,738 points.
Congratulations to all of Mrs. Dunn’s participants!
