Michelle Maturo, the owner of Elevation Spin, Train and TRX in Georgetown, has been teaching and mentoring Spin instructors for 20 years. “My cycling background and coaching skills are displayed in my spin classes and all my instructors teach with that philosophy,” she explains.

We asked this local Spin guru to share her top 5 cycling tips to assure you’re not just spinning your wheels.

1. Proper bike fit- From an exercise physiology standpoint, alignment is key to preventing injury, especially in the  lumbar spine. Great fit will result in efficient riding.

2. Resistance on your wheel-  Having the proper tension on the wheel to support your own strength will not only get you stronger but your effort to increase heart rate will enhance your caloric burn & build endurance.

3. No need for fancy dancing- a stationary bike is meant for cycling not bouncing, weaving, push-ups, figure 8's... Too much change in movement can cause misalignment of the knee & spine.  It can also prevent focus on pedal stroke, breathing & efficiency.

4. Pace- pace yourself accordingly, never try to compete with the person near you.. The success of your ride is solely on you.

5.  Have Fun!

Michelle Maturo opened Elevation in 2007 as the first dedicated Spinning studio in the Ridgefield/Wilton area. Read our interview with Maturo here.
