ARTalk with Sculptor James Grashow at the Ridgefield Library on Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m.

The Ridgefield Library and the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, co-sponsors for the ARTalk series, will present an ARTalk with award-winning sculptor and illustrator James Grashow

Grashow will give a talk about his work and career creating sculpture projects that range from giant corrugated installations to small, intricately detailed and sculpted house plants. He will talk about overarching themes that inspire his work: man, nature and mortality.

He is interested in the natural cycle of creation and the eventual destruction of materials. For example, his large-scale outdoor corrugated cardboard sculpture of the Trevi Fountain which he installed outside of the main entrance of The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art several years ago was allowed to self-destruct while it was exposed to the weather elements as part of the piece. To read more about this, click here. He will also build something on the spot as part of his presentation.

His work as a wood-cut artist has been published regularly in The New York Times as well as in many other national periodicals and publications.

Grashow received his B.A. and M.F.A. from Pratt Institute and was also a recipient of a Fulbright Travel Grant to Florence. He is represented by the Alan Stone Gallery in Manhattan.

ARTalks are dedicated to exploring the creative process through a series of lectures, workshops and films that focus on art, architecture and design.
