The Ruden Report Features the Athletic Middlebrook Family

Closely following Fairfield County high school sports for years, the Ruden Report recognized a familiar pattern on Ridgefield's rosters- the repetition of the name "Middlebrook." The four girls, Kathryn (19), Julia (17), Elizabeth (17), and Claire (14), have distinguished themselves as varsity athletes, all competing on the girls basketball and soccer teams, with the exception of Elizabeth, who traded soccer for volleyball. Through strenuous practices and important playoff games, the Middlebrook girls have grown and bonded as both sisters and teammates.

Hearing from each of the girls, the Ruden Report provides a little insight on how growing up in a competitive household with four athletic girls, all very close in age, has shaped their successful sports careers. The girls talk about the comfort of knowing they'd always have a friend on the team to lean on, or at least a consistent support system on the sidelines. In 2015, Kathryn, Julia, and Elizabeth helped bring the basketball team to an FCIAC championship and the following year, Julia and Claire advanced together with the soccer team to the state finals.

For the Middlebrook family, the blend of sisterhood and athletics has certainly made for unique and rewarding high school years. Kathryn is now a rising sophomore at the College of the Holy Cross, and together for one more year at RHS, Julia and Elizabeth will be seniors and Claire, a sophomore.
