Catholic Math League, a national math competition, serves as a mathematical tool used by hundreds of Catholic schools throughout the nation to aid in the development of the mathematical skills in the lives of their students. Saint Mary School in Ridgefield is proud to be part of this academically challenging competition.
Amy Dowding, Saint Mary School Director of Advancement explains, “Student participants compete according to their math level in four contests, which are 30 minutes long.”
Saint Mary School competed in Algebra 1 and Pre-Algebra. “Scores were entered and cumulative standings were calculated for the three highest scores per school,” says Dowding.
“In the Algebra 1, we competed against 62 Catholic schools from the Northeast region, consisting Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Saint Mary School finished in 6th place overall in the region,” she explains.
“Within the nation, our Algebra I students competed against 1271 high school and middle school students. Our highest student score placed us in the top 12 percent of the nation,” says Dowding.
Within the Pre-Algebra category, Saint Mary School placed 5th out of 15 schools with Saint Mary School student Michaela Martin placing first and Jack Greenleaf and Matthew Uy tied for second.
“Congratulations to all students who competed throughout the 2017-2018 school year!” says Dowding.
