The Gathering of the G.O.A.T. at Saint Mary School, Ridgefield
Ethan Allen Preparatory is proud to announce the formation of a new rookie robotics team, Disruptive Technologies, FRC Team Number 7462, founded by one of our students, G. Edward Bell.
We are excited to be hosting an official FIRST
® LEGO
® League Robotics Competition Qualifier, "The Gathering of the G.O.A.T." aka "G.O.T. G.O.A.T.?" The event will be held on Saturday, November 17 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm at
Saint Mary School, located at 183 High Ridge Ave. in Ridgefield and is free to the public.
Sixteen middle school teams from throughout Connecticut are registered to compete. They have team names such as E.P.I.C. (Exceptional People Impacting the Community) and G.L.O.W. (Girls Lead Our World), both are all-girls robotics teams out of Danbury.
The Disruptive Technologies team created the name of the competition as their mascot is the goat, chosen because in sports, G.O.A.T. stands for 'Greatest of All-Time,' and since "Robotics is the Sport of the Mind," the team always strives to be the G.O.A.T. in everything they do!
About FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology)
FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) is a program that supports students by introducing them to science and technology within a sport-like atmosphere.
The objective is to:
The basis of FLL is a robotics tournament in a cheerful atmosphere, where participants need to solve a tricky “mission” with the help of a robot.
The team researches a given topic, and are then tasked with planning, programming and testing of an autonomous robot to solve the mission. The FLL Teams take the opportunity to experience all steps of a real product development process: solving a problem under time pressure with insufficient resources and unknown competitors. FLL is a small microcosm of real business life in all its respects.
Every year FIRST® releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic. This year’s Challenge is called “Into Orbit” and is related to space exploration. The Challenge has three parts: Robot Game, Project, and Core Values.
