Saint Mary School is joining Catholic schools across the country in celebrating Catholic Schools Week (CSW) January 27 - February 2, 2019. Sponsored by NCEA (National Catholic Education Association), CSW is an annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States.
Saint Mary School has chosen Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed as their 2019 Catholic Schoool’s Week theme. “It’s a special week for us,” says Amy Dowding, Director of Advancement at Saint Mary School.
Saint Mary School has an array of activities planned throughout the week, many of which have a philanthropic spin. Anna O’Rourke, Principal of Saint Mary School says, “Our faith shows us that giving to others and helping others is a demonstration of our love for Jesus. Something our children at SMS learn from their early beginnings with us.”
In addition to many beloved Catholic School Week traditions at Saint Mary School, Dowding says, “Student Government came up with some great new ideas.” She adds, “There will be a few surprises!”
On Cozy Day Dowding says that students can swap their uniforms for flannel shirts and students in various grade levels will collect donations for local charities including the Ridgefield Fire Department, the Danbury Animal Shelter, Dorothy Day House and Family and Children's Aid.
On Patriotic Day students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue and will express gratitude for the men and women of the Armed Forces and First Responders by writing letters, poems or drawings thanking them for their service and hoping for their safe return. “Letters will be distributed by Operation Gratitude,” says Dowding.
“School Spirit Day features a pep rally, complete with a special performance by our cheerleaders, and the annual Alumni/Staff/Parent vs. Middle School students basketball game,” says Dowding.
