Last week, Robb and Stephanie Heering, the owners of Ridgefield's popular One Hump Farm (home to Sheik the camel and his sidekick Humpfree) posted an important community message on the Farm's Facebook page regarding visiting hours.
After receiving dozens of calls, emails, messages every week asking when they will open One Hump Farm to visitors again, the Heering family told the community that their oldest of four sons was suffering from complications of Crohn's disease and was in the ICU at Danbury Hospital.
Today, they updated the community on their son's condition and visiting hours at the farm. "Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Our son has been moved out of ICU and is now on the road to recovery. While he still remains in the hospital, we anticipate he’ll be home to continue recovery within a week or so. Once things are settled a bit we’ll announce our first Fall 2019 visitors day at the farm!"
We are so happy to hear that Robb and Stephanie's son is on the road to recovery!
Did you know? When it comes to camels, Robb Heering (Sheik’s owner) is the real deal. Robb, together with his wife, Stephanie rescued Sheik, a dromedary camel (aka an Arabian camel) when he was just two months old after Robb believed the camel was being abused and mistreated by his traveling petting zoo owners.
Read our interview with Herring here to learn about how he rescued Sheik and how the camel became the inspiration for Robb and Stephanie’s nonprofit, International Camel Rescue, and their business, Camel Life.
