For the Love of Dan Spano

Editor's note: a beloved member of our community passed away suddenly from COVID-19 at the age of 30. Dan Spano was a townie. Growing up in Ridgefield you would find him on the ballfield coaching or reffing an RBA game. He was one of the kids working behind the counter at Ridgefield Prime and pumping gas at Getty. In recent years, he was an entrepreneur and personal trainer. He loved our community. Here, his mom shares a bit of her son's spirit with us. She also thanks the community for their love and support.

Dan's friends have created a Go Fund Me page in memory of Dan to defray medical, funeral, and memorial expenses. Any funds raised will be given directly to the family. Visit the page here.

My husband drove me to this town 27 years ago trying to convince me to move here. I didn’t want to leave my family that was still living in lower Westchester county.   After many attempts to persuade me to make Ridgefield my home, I finally gave in.  I am so grateful I did. The love and support that this community has shown us are overwhelming. I know many people feel just as heartbroken as we do. For those of you that did not know my son Dan Spano let me tell you a few things about him:

Dan was the kindest and most generous person I knew. He had an infectious smile that would light up a room.  He had a sense of humor that just made you laugh. He was the kid that pumped your gas at Getty gas station. He was the person behind the counter at Ridgefield Prime. He was the boy that umpired the Ridgefield little league and coached Pop Warner football. He was the young man who was your children’s counselor at the parks and rec. He was the young man that refereed RBA basketball. He loved this community.  I am so glad I made this town my home.

I just want to thank each and every one of you for the love and support you have shown our family.  May God bless you and keep you all safe.

With Love,
The Spano Family
