Dr. Jacob (Jake) Greenwood named new Principal of RHS

Ridgefield Public Schools announced tonight the appointment of Dr. Jacob (Jake) Greenwood as the new Principal of Ridgefield High School. Dr. Greenwood taught biology at RHS from 1999 to 2012–promoted to Dean of Students in 2006 and then Science Department Chair in 2009. After his distinguished tenure at RHS, Dr. Greenwood was Assistant Principal at Darien High School for six years before becoming the Principal of Masuk High School in Monroe, Connecticut.

RPS Superintendent Dr. Susie Da Silva said that the District conducted a comprehensive search, and that Dr. Greenwood’s experience as a Fairfield County principal, DRG A assistant principal, and RHS teacher/administrator struck them as invaluable. Dr. Da Silva noted that his proven ability to connect with students and families, collaborate with faculty, embrace innovation, and exceed expectations at all of these jobs make him an excellent choice to lead Ridgefield High School.

In her glowing recommendation, Ellen Dunn, Principal of Darien High School, wrote, “he had tremendously strong relationships with students...and wonderful relationships with teachers. You will be very lucky to have him.” Assistant Superintendent of the Masuk High School district, Joseph Kobza, said, “the one thing you need to know is that he is the real deal,” and said that this will be a “HUGE loss” for his district. Ellen Spark, former Assistant Principal of Darien High School wrote, “I can think of no better administrator to lead a school community.” She said, “Dr. Greenwood leads with the premise that all students matter,” and cited his work ethic, integrity, and ability to relate to students and staff. She described his exceptional performance and proactive approach in the difficult role as the administrator in charge of the DHS building facilities, technology, and a senior internship program as ways that he made the Darien High School safer and its school climate better.

Dr. Greenwood said, “as I began my educational career in RHS, the Ridgefield community has always held a special place in my heart, and I am humbled and excited for the opportunity to return as Principal. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to serve the students, families, and staff of Ridgefield once again.” Dr. Greenwood will start on August 1.
