Ridgefield High School Skis to State Championship, Girls Take Fairfield by Storm!

The Fairfield girls ski team has won the Connecticut State Championship for 7 straight years. The Ridgefield boys team won the state in 2019 with a strong group of seniors and underclassmen. While the Ridgefield girls finished second in the state last year (impressive with 40 teams competing), they have not been able to overcome Fairfield. Fairfield combines two high schools — Fairfield Ludlow and Fairfield Ward — making the team twice as good.
This year, competing under Covid restrictions and without spectators, the Ridgefield girls have held strong. In 5 races, Ridgefield has been first 3 times. Fairfield 2 times. Last week, the Ridgefield girls won by 4 seconds over second-place Fairfield. Ridgefield Athletic Director Dane Street tweeted @Ridgefieldad
GREAT night for our skiers! Girls crush the competition.. a 4-second margin over 2nd place Fairfield and the boys take 2nd overall! both teams positioned well for CISL State Championships! GO TIGERS!
Out of over 170 racers in the field, Ridgefield was lead to victory by Senior Riley Peters (14TH), Juniors Jillian Pastore (4TH) Julia Bragg (7TH) Isabelle Redrup (11TH) and sophomores Hadley Drever (6TH) and Sophia Pomposello (25TH). The girls' team is captained by Kate Bucci, Shea Coughlin and Riley Peters. Seniors Echo Nielsen and Lily Faillaci have made great contributions.
The teams are set to square off on Monday for the State Championship. Because of Covid, the season started later than usual. So weather could be an issue for the final. But, if the State Championship goes forward it could be RHS's best chance at a state championship in this school year as most sports have not held state tournaments. Go get them, Girls!
