Athena qualified to compete in the state competition on February 27th, 2021 with a high score of 38.350. She went on to compete at Connecticut's highest level competition in Plainville where she won the highest award of All-Around State Champion for Gold Xcell. Additionally, Athena dominated the USA Gymnastics Xcel competition by achieving the highest score in all ages and divisions in the entire state of Connecticut, making her the highest-ranked gymnast at the state level.

Athena’s accomplishments earned her the number one spot on The Super Team. Only 7 gymnasts from the state of Connecticut are chosen to represent our great state at the regional level. Regionals will be held May 15th, 2021 in Rochester New York. Additionally, Athena’s high scores qualified her to compete at the national level. Nationals will be held June 4th, 2021 in Wisconsin Dell, Wisconsin.

Athena trains at Gymnastics Spectrum in Danbury Connecticut. The owner of the gym Kathy Nowak and Athena’s coaches Victor Genin and Yvette Gonzalez-Loya have trained and lead Athena to her 2nd state championship.

“Everyone at Gymnastics Spectrum goes far beyond the scope of just coaching. Her coaches inspire Athena, nurture her passion for the sport and their unwavering commitment and dedication to our team is evident when our girls compete. I couldn’t be any prouder," says Kristin Willman, Athena’s mom.

Athena’s coaches released a statement saying, “Athena is one of our most dedicated, hard-working, self-driven athletes. She exudes happiness, and makes everyone smile and laugh on a daily basis."
