On Sunday, October 24th eight Ridgefield Families met at the Bronx Zoo for the annual NYC One Walk event to help fight Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The families each have a child with T1D and bound together to raise funds and participate in the walk.

The fundraising team named "Ridgefield Warriors" raised $23,554 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and was the fourth-highest contribution of all the teams in the region. Local business Whip Salon also contributed $3,000 of the total from its recent Hair Raiser.

When you have T1D, your body stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. Managing the disease is a constant struggle that involves monitoring your blood sugar level, administering insulin, and carefully balancing these insulin doses with your eating and activity. Even with a strict regimen, people with T1D may still experience dangerously high or low blood glucose levels that can, in extreme cases, be life-threatening.

Scientific advances are being turned into therapies that are changing the course of T1D. The team's fundraising contribution goes towards funding life-changing breakthroughs and helping make a lasting impact on the millions of individuals living with this disease.
