On Saturday, we published about The Angel of Ridgefield collecting gift cards for a Ridgefield family in the aftermath of a house fire. Thank you to all who have stepped up to help this family.
We spoke with Ridgefield Fire Chief Jerry Myers today who let us know that the (human) family members were not at their home on Lounsbury Lane (just off Florida Hill Road) when the fire erupted. Sadly, he said that two family dogs likely perished in the fire. "The house is a total loss," Myers said. "The fire is not suspicious and is believed to have started in the basement," he added.
The residents came home and when they entered the house they found it on fire.
Many towns came to the aid of the Ridgefield Fire Department
Myers said the Ridgefield Fire Department and the Town's two tankers received assistance with Water Tankers from Georgetown, West Redding, South Salem, and Miry Brook from Danbury. "We also had assistance from the Wilton Fire Department who covered the rest of the town while we worked the fire and answered several alarms not related to the fire," Myers said.
Georgetown and the City of Danbury assisted with ambulances.
"Fire Marshal Miglinas was in charge of the investigation and was assisted by the State Fire Marshal. In addition, the Ridgefield Public Works Department once again came to our rescue with a bucket loader to assist in removing the debris little by little to allow the Marshals to investigate completely," said Myers.
Myers said the Ridgefield Police Department and our Town's Fire Police were instrumental in keeping the traffic clear on the narrow roads which allowed the tankers to access the fire scene with multiple loads of water.
