Ridgefield COVID Task Force Update: Mass Distribution of Test Kits on January 15

Ridgefield Health Director Ed Briggs says that while some towns and cities have a mask mandate, Ridgefield follows State recommendations which currently ask that people voluntarily wear proper face coverings in all public indoor spaces.

• Unvaccinated people must wear masks in all indoor public settings. Masks are also required to be worn by everyone in certain settings such as healthcare facilities, facilities housing vulnerable populations, public and private transit, correctional facilities, schools, and childcare. • Masks have various level of effectiveness, and the Ridgefield COVID Taskforce recommends wearing medical or KN95 masks whenever possible. For a complete list of mask guidelines go to: CDC Mask Guidelines.

Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi announced that the town has purchased a large supply of test kits for Ridgefield residents only and distribution will continue through the upcoming week as the town prioritizes the most vulnerable population. “We are also working with our town partners who always step up during emergencies to help with distributions, sheltering and messaging.”

• A mass distribution of test kits for Ridgefield residents only will take place on Saturday, January 15, weather permitting, with a backup date of Sunday, January 16. Details are being formalized and will be provided to all local media/social media outlets, Ridgefield OEM Facebook, the Town website. Notification will also go out through Ridgefield Alerts. (www.ridgefieldalerts.com). Proof of residency will be required.

• A COVID testing location (by appointment only) has been set up M-F in the Yanity Gym Parking lot: GO TO: Ridgefield COVID Testing, Tents have been erected for check in and swabbing in the area near the skate park. Sign-ups will be allowed up to 24 hours in advance.
