Ridgefield Dance Team Makes History with First Ever CIAC State Championship Win

The Ridgefield High School (RHS) Varsity Dance Team has done it again! This time the girls brought home the 2022 CIAC State Champion title for Hip Hop.

On Saturday, February 26, the Tigers took the floor to prove that they are the best in the State! Hamden High School was buzzing with over 27 schools from Connecticut competing in six different categories including the popular Jazz and Hip Hop. The Tigers had won first place with their routine last month at the Woodland Regional Competition and were hoping to defend their title and take home the win again on Saturday. The routine choreographed by Coach Taylor Bobay won the praise of the judges for its complexity and uniqueness.

The team's hard work and dedication, including countless hours of practice over February break, brought the Varsity girls the well deserved first place win and state title! This win qualifies the team to go to the New England Regional Tournament on March 12. Coach Taylor knew that this was a challenge her team was able to meet and she made sure they were ready to do so. When asked how she felt about this amazing victory, Coach said, "This is just a reminder that dreams really do come true. This team has been making history all season and it feels like we are finally getting the recognition we deserve. Our creativity, hard work, dedication, commitment, and team camaraderie made this possible. Our heads and our hearts are in it this year and I truly believe we earned this outcome. I am the proudest Coach in the world." We look forward to seeing what the team can accomplish at Regionals in two weeks.
