The nephew of Bart and Kathy Keaveny, owners of Marty Motors, had a tragic accident in Hawaii. On February 11, 2012, Brandon Matthews was playing football on the beach in Waikiki, Hawaii. When he dove for the ball he broke his C-1 vertebrae. He was instantly paralyzed and unable to breathe on his own. There have been very small movements in his fingers and toes and we are hopeful that in time Brandon will be capable of meaningful movement; however, he is still unable to breathe on his own.
Given Brandon's critical medical condition, he will need an entire trauma team to fly him home. Unfortunately, Brandon does not have insurance that covers transportation home and the medical flight will cost approximately $160,000.
If anybody is aware of any resources or have contacts that can help us with Brandon's transportation needs please let Bart and Kathy know. Brandon's younger sister Kelsey has done an amazing job setting up fundraising and our entire family is working to do whatever we can to get him home and to the right resources to help him heal to his fullest ability. Whatever your belief system please pray, send good thoughts and positive feelings to Brandon.
