Dr. Angelo Ciminiello, Danbury Orthopedics sports medicine specialist, is the new Safety Director for Ridgefield Little League

Will lecture on March 28th on Injury Prevention for young athletes

Danbury, CT, March 7, 2012: Angelo Ciminiello, MD, of The Sports Medicine Center at Danbury Orthopedics, and Director of Orthopedic Trauma at Danbury Hospital, has been named Safety Director of Ridgefield Little League.  He will deliver a lecture to parents and coaches on the topic of Injury Prevention for young athletes on March 28th, at 7 pm, at Scotts Ridge Middle School.

A fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon, Dr. Ciminiello’s goal is to “provide the same high level of care to recreational and young athletes as is available to high level athletes competing on nationally recognized teams.”  As the new Safety Director for Ridgefield Little League, he will advise on strength training and practice techniques and help coaches and players adhere to pitching guidelines to prevent injury over time.

Dr. Ciminiello brings in-depth on-the-field experience to his credentials as a sports medicine expert. After completing his fellowship in Sports Medicine at The New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Ciminiello served as Assistant Team Physician to the Boston Celtics and Northeastern University. In earlier years, as captain of his college's Division I baseball team, he earned numerous scholar-athlete honors while leading the players to a Big East Championship and the NCAA College World Series Tournament.  His personal experience on the field and with high level athletes make him uniquely qualified to understand the physical demands and psyche of the competitive and recreational athlete.

Dr. Ciminiello is one of the area’s leading orthopedic sport medicine specialists, focusing on arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery, complex knee and shoulder surgery, hip surgery, orthopedic trauma and fracture care.  He has authored several articles on rotator cuff repairs and is frequently asked to speak to surgical residents and civic groups on sports medicine.  Dr. Ciminiello is the team physician for the elite collegiate baseball team, the Danbury Westerners, as well as for Ridgefield High School.
