Dean Miller speaks about Meals on Wheels at Ridgefield Library on Nov. 12

Congratulations to Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield!

The Ridgefield Meals on Wheels program is celebrating its 50th year of serving any Ridgefield resident unable to prepare their own meals due to age, infirmity, disability, or recovery from illness or surgery. In honor of this milestone, the Commission on Aging has invited Dean Miller, Board Chair, and Michelle Lange, Vice Chair, to speak about the program on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 1-2:30 PM at the Ridgefield Library.

Meals on Wheels has no age or income restrictions, and as of May 1, 2021, all meals are provided free of charge. Donations and grants cover the program’s operating expenses, which currently support around 230 clients each year. This translates to 1,000 meals per week or 53,000 meals annually. Clients receive both lunches and dinners, with meal service ranging from one to seven days a week, depending on individual needs.

Beyond providing nutritious food, Meals on Wheels helps bridge the gap of isolation. Volunteers play a crucial role, with twelve assembling meals in the kitchen and ten volunteer drivers delivering along twelve routes, three times a week. Throughout the year, clients also receive special gifts donated by the community.

The event, Senior Voices, is free and will be offered as a hybrid program. Individuals can attend in person or register via Zoom through the Ridgefield Library. Light refreshments and conversations will follow the program.

We hope you’ll join us to celebrate this remarkable milestone and learn more about the vital work being done in our community!
