Iconic Ridgefield Family Jeweler Celebrates 75 Years in Business

Since 1948, three generations of the Addessi Family have been committed to making special moments unforgettable for their customers. With a sharp attention to detail, handcrafted and custom fine jewelry, keepsake gifts, and unmatched services, Addessi Jewelers has built a long-standing reputation for beautiful, quality craftsmanship and white glove service in the Fairfield and Westchester County areas.

A Legacy Begins

The story began in 1948 when now-owner, Wayne Addessi’s father, Enrico, and his two brothers John and Louie, opened the first Addessi Jewelers on Danbury’s Division Street in 1948. The trio was pivotal in introducing a personalized family approach and custom-made jewelry to the area during the 1960’s and 70’s.

In the years that followed, Addessi Jewelers became a local institution, known for its exceptional customer care and service and high-quality pieces. Clients returned year after year, entrusting the family with their most precious moments—engagements, weddings, anniversaries, and significant milestones.

“Back when I was a small child, I remember going out with my father on a Sunday to collect weekly payments from customers of just a few dollars. Not only did our customers trust us to deliver exceptional quality jewelry, but we trusted in them as well. Nothing was more important than treating our customers with respect and integrity, and extending credit before there were credit cards was how my family built the business,” Wayne recalls.

Many of their current customers have been with Addessi for decades and recall not only working with Wayne’s father and uncles but also watching how the business has developed into a Ridgefield institution. “Anita and I have been loyal customers of Addessi Jewelers since 1987,” said longtime customer and Ridgefield local Nick Donofrio, reflecting on nearly four decades with the family-owned business. “From our very first meeting with their father and grandfather, who treated us with such respect and dignity, we felt like part of the family. His promise, when I wanted to make a major commitment to Anita with two incredible pieces of jewelry, still echoes in my ears. We’ve always trusted each other, and that bond has made us clients for life.”

Anita added, “We’ve shared so many treasures and experiences over the years. Designing and wearing bespoke pieces from Addessi Jewelers has been a joy. As the years pass, we’ve come to know the Addessi family as both friends and family. And Donna, their mother and grandmother, is as sweet and beautiful today as when we first met her.”

Passing the Torch to Future Generations

The family opened its Ridgefield location on Main Street in 1965. Wayne, now President of Addessi Jewelers, learned the craft and family business philosophy from his mother and father, and has since brought two

of his three children into the business. Daughter, Kate, served as a store manager for a number of years before taking time off to raise her young family. And his son, Thomas, serves as Vice President, overseeing daily operations, customer relations, directing the marketing, and branding, vendor relationships, custom projects, and more.

“Our focus has always been to exceed expectations and experiences for every client that comes through our doors. My father showed us how to respect, appreciate and truly care for our clients and their families which is a primary reason for our continued success and growth. Our clients trust us to

help them make memories out of their most important moments,” said Wayne.

A Mainstay on Main Street

In addition to their dedication to their customers, the Addessi family cares deeply about the local community. Wayne was instrumental in launching the “In Ridgefield” marketing initiative just a few short years ago, which recently partnered with the Chamber of Commerce and helped position Ridgefield as a center for commerce and culture. Wayne’s philosophy “a rising tide lifts all ships” has been his driving force behind this initiative and his other contributions to the town over the years.

Addessi Jewelers has long supported countless organizations and nonprofits, including the Ridgefield Playhouse and Keeler Tavern. Additionally, the family donated the Historic Scott House to the Ridgefield Historic Society to further preserve Ridgefield’s legacy.

Looking to the Future

While over 75 years in business is a significant milestone, it’s also an opportunity to look ahead to the future. Balancing tradition with innovation may be a challenge for some family businesses, and while Addessi Jewelers remains committed to the past, it embraces innovation for the future.

In the last few years, Addessi has expanded its bespoke jewelry business, renovating their second-floor workshop and reception area to offer customers an even more customized experience. Bringing their clients up to the shop allows for them to be a part of the creative process and collaborate with the Addessi Team from conception to design.

In addition to their custom jewelry offering, they have also launched their own line of jewelry, The Fiore Collection, which is a series of hand-carved gemstone flowers, each with their own symbolism and set with diamonds and 18k gold and platinum. Along with The Fiore Collection, they manufacture many of their own fashion pieces, bridal jewelry, and colored gemstone pieces. Not only do they have timeless and classic collections, but they have fresh and new contemporary designs as well. This is just one of the many ways Addessi has set themselves apart.

Addessi Jewelers has big plans, including the expansion of its digital content and online presence. Wayne’s son, Thomas, has been instrumental in spearheading the company’s marketing and branding efforts online and via social media and YouTube where Addessi is creating beautiful content documenting the jewelry-making process, along with media capturing finished products.

“Being able to continue the family legacy with my children is an absolute dream come true. And while every generation brings new ideas, energy, and knowledge, the commitment to our customers and community have

remained intact. We invite everyone to join in the festivities and be a part of our journey into the next chapter. It’s a celebration of both our business and the community that has supported us along the way,” Wayne concluded.
