We are thrilled to announce our new weekly feature, "P-06877-etry," where Ridgefield’s second Poet Laureate, Ira Joe Fisher, will share his poetic prowess with HamletHub readers! This renowned media personality—broadcaster, actor, educator, and Emmy-winning writer—brings a local twist to his poetry, reflecting his deep love for our community. A proud Ridgefielder, Ira lives in town with his wife, Shelly, and is a devoted lover of Welsh Corgis.
Above
The trees of Connecticut are towned
in pillared sanctuary;
on their limbs the vestments of summer
inviting us into their dark.
So sit and lean and listen to these
the trees of Connecticut all towned
and bound by stones walled with moss and grey.
Implore the wind to speak its secret
through the maple, dogwood, and the beech.
A tale of time quite quiet and calm,
a time the wind did every day preach
and sing and bless the sun and the rain
the gift of listening, and of hearing.
And grace our ears with the wish to reach
quiet from maple, dogwood, and beech.
There’s a breeze sporting your name on it.
It’s soft and it’s often silent
But always threading through the window
screen or the meadow hay or the grass
in the churchyard and pointing above.
