Road Through Fall
There were clouds a-wisp and high
As we motored south
Connecticut to Carolina.
Sun jeweled the sky;
Burst of autumn light –
Hours aging in crackle and gold,
Pines leaning and listening
To our journey and laughter –
The pines black against dimming day
Sent a soft and whispered sigh
At travel well-traveled,
At travel well-arrived.
