Ridgefield Letter: Early Voting in Connecticut

On November 5th, you have choices as Early Voting has finally made it to CT! (FYI, the only states that don’t offer Early Voting are Alabama, Mississippi, and New Hampshire.)

Early Voting runs from October 21st through November 3rd from 10 AM - 6 PM at Town Hall. On October 29th and 31st, the hours expand to 8 AM - 8 PM. Of course, you can still vote in person on Election Day (Tuesday, November 5th) at your regular polling place between 6 AM - 8 PM.

How is Early Voting different from voting by absentee ballot?

Early Voting happens only in person (no mail-in or dropbox) and is available to every voter without a specific reason.

Absentee Ballot voting requires filling out an application form identifying your valid reason for needing an absentee ballot. Your ballot will be mailed to you, which you can complete and either mail back or drop in the dropbox. You can also visit the Town Clerk at Ridgefield's Town Hall, fill out your absentee ballot request, and complete your ballot all in one visit (starting October 4th).

Both Early Voting and absentee ballots are securely held with your Registrar of Voters until Election Day, when they are opened and counted. Systems are in place to ensure nobody votes more than once, and both the Democratic and Republican Registrars of Voters work together to ensure elections in CT are safe and secure.

This year, in addition to voting for your candidates of choice, please vote YES on the Ballot Referendum for no-excuse absentee voting (36 other states and DC already offer it—it's time CT catches up).

Click here for more information (like your sample ballot) or text VOTE to 860-321-4221 to get updates. Exercising your right to vote makes democracy stronger. Make sure you, your friends, and family are registered to vote and plan to vote!
