Ridgefield Community Comes Together to Support New Drivers

In a remarkable display of community spirit, the Ridgefield Police Department, Pamby Motors, and Ridgefield Driving School are joining forces with Ridgefield resident Aya van Zanten to organize a unique program aimed at helping new drivers feel more confident and educated behind the wheel. This special workshop will offer both classroom education and hands-on basic instruction with an auto mechanic, covering topics not typically included in standard driving school curricula.

Mark your calendars for Monday, April 29th, 2024 from 7 – 9pm. The event begins at the Ridgefield Driving School, 37 Danbury Road and concludes at Pamby Motors, 143 Danbury Road. Please register https://bluebird-int.com/registration

"This workshop isn't just another driving school," explains van Zanten. "It's an opportunity for new drivers to review their knowledge and learn proactive strategies for handling scenarios and situations not usually covered in traditional driving classes."

The two-hour workshop, which will be free to attend, is open to all, but the primary focus will be on new and upcoming drivers, as well as those who have recently obtained their license. The program will be divided into three sections, each led by experts in their field.

Refreshments will be provided by Caraluzzi’s.

The Ridgefield Police Department will cover topics such as safety, driver interaction with law enforcement, common misconceptions of young drivers, and how to handle animal collisions, accidents, and car breakdowns on roads and highways.

Ridgefield Driving School will provide guidance on driving in various weather conditions, including snow, sleet, ice, and rain, as well as tips for highway driving and navigating short ramps. They will also review common pitfalls and how to avoid them.

Lastly, the auto technician from Pamby Motors will offer insights into basic and advanced car mechanics and maintenance, including tire wear, tire pressure, changing tires, jumpstarting, interpreting warning lights, and oil/fluid changes. Participants will have the opportunity for hands-on learning, going back and forth to their own cars to apply what they've learned.

The workshop will also include a question and answer session, allowing participants to seek advice and clarification from all three experts.

"This free workshop will be offered initially as a one-time event, with the possibility of repeating it later in the year for those who couldn't participate in the first one," says van Zanten.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Aya van Zanten for her dedication to driving safety and education in our community. She is truly a powerhouse driving positive change.
