Ridgefield Fire Department Battles House Fire on East Ridge Road - All Safe!

Last night, Thursday, March 21 at approximately 10:30 pm Ridgefield Fire Department responded to a fire at 17 East Ridge Road, according to Jerry M. Myers, Chief of the Ridgefield Fire Department. Myers says, “The home has major damage and is not livable at this time.”
According to Myers, two occupants were in the home at the time of the fire. They were alerted by a fire alarm and were able to escape the home safely. One civilian received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. No firefighters were injured.
Myers says the fire was extinguished around 3:30 am however, “Units returned to the scene around 6:30 am for a flare up and extinguished that and then assisted the homeowner in salvaging some belongings from the home.”
The Ridgefield Fire Department operated with three pumpers, two tankers, a ladder truck and various utility vehicles. Fourteen career staff and approximately thirty volunteer members worked to extinguish this fire.
Mutual aid from neighboring fire departments
“Our neighboring communities provided all of this assistance as part of our long-standing mutual aid agreements. The timely assistance of these departments was instrumental in maintaining a safe foreground operation,” says Myers.
- The City of Danbury provided EMS coverage at the scene to protect our firefighters.
- The Georgetown Fire Department assisted with an ambulance to handle in-town emergencies and an engine to cover our headquarters in case of another alarm.
- The Wilton Fire Department assisted on the scene by providing a Rapid Intervention Team in case any firefighters needed to be rescued.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal, Jerry Myers.
