Ridgefield High School Announces April Music Student Of The Month

The RHS Music Department is thrilled to announce that Savannah Collins is April’s Music Student Of The Month. Her positive attitude towards playing in orchestras, and infectious kindness spread to her peers has made her an extremely valued member of the music community.

Savannah began playing the cello in fourth grade and proceeded to develop skill and passion for the instrument. Despite setbacks the coronavirus had on taking cello lessons and playing with the community, Savannah persevered and fell in love with playing in symphonic and chamber orchestras throughout high school. Her devotion to playing the cello and the music community has encouraged her to take on leadership roles as the principal cellist of the chamber orchestra and assistant principal cellist in the symphonic orchestra.

Looking back at her four years as a member of the music community at Ridgefield High School, Savannah’s gratitude through the music community comes not only from her personal improvement but through the friendships she was able to form along the way. The privilege to work alongside students not only in her own grade but in other grades as well has been an incredible feature the music community has had to offer, allowing for even more friendships to form.

Orchestra director Michael McNamara says, “I love having Savannah in our orchestra program. She is always friendly, patient, and gracious to those around her. She’s a hard person not to like. She is a very fine cellist and has done a great job as principal cellist of the Chamber Orchestra and assistant principal of the Symphonic Orchestra. Her warmth and enthusiasm are infectious. We will miss her next year!”

Outside of participating in both symphonic and chamber orchestra, Savannah is a talented athlete playing softball for the TC futures and participating in track and field at Ridgefield High School. She has also been a member of Ridgefield High School’s Future Business Leaders of America club.

Upon reflection on the music community, Savannah says, “Thank you for encouraging me to pursue music. I am so grateful for the people I have met and the experiences I’ve had as a member of the RHS music community. I will miss this welcoming environment and everyone a part of it.”
