Ridgefield Letter: Preserve Our Democratic Republic

For those concerned about the credibility of our elections, Ridgefield’s Town Clerk and Registrar of Voters are there to answer your questions. They are incredibly informative and will assure you that robust checks and balances are in place.

Some voters in the 2020 election cycle were told the delayed finalization of results was evidence of a ‘stolen’ election. While there were numerous legal challenges (over 60 by Donald Trump and his allies - all of which were dismissed, ruled against Trump, rejected, or withdrawn), the courts overwhelmingly upheld the election results, and independent audits and investigations confirmed the integrity of the election. In reality, the election was deemed by CISA “the most secure in American history.”

It’s normal for results to take days or even weeks to finalize, as essential processes like absentee ballot counting and signature verification are completed. As we head into Election 2024, remember that many states (including CT) don’t process mail-in ballots until Election Day, contributing to delayed results.

Elections are your chance to have your voice heard. Keeping our democratic republic alive requires diligence, transparency, and patience. Vote early (in person at Town Hall) starting October 21st or at the polls on November 5th.
